Ze Beauty Of Camera Shots.

Photographs need angles, so do videos. I always wonder how to make more "professional looking" videos. Other than editing the video with effects, the other answer is - camera shots and angles. Before that I didn't notice and think about all these, but now I realize that it is very essential in a short film or a movie. Every scene is planned to make perfect.

So our idea started with a scary theme - ghost. Our group wanted to create something like a horror comedy, we thought it was fun in the process of filming. I didn't agree much - not because I mind being the ghost, it's just that I don't want to create something that will scare myself.

We received feedback that a ghost doesn't have to be ghostly looking etc. So from that point, we improvised our storyline. It's really hard to get a storyline which every member can agree to. In the end our storyline can be said to be completely different from the initial idea. Good vs evil is the main contrast in our video.

Throughout the video filming, I should say that my favourite camera shot is the over shoulder shots (OSS). It really gives the audience a clear focus and a comfortable feeling.

Other than the camera shots that we learned in class, I found out that other shots used by some movie makers were rather interesting.

Canted angles:

  • Visually striking, emphasize a sense of disorientation or alienation in the subject of the shot.
  • For example: Slumdog Millionaire (2008) by Danny Boyle.

Shoot Inside or Through Something:

  • Shots that show the subject of the shot reflected through a medium, such as a rear-view mirror or a pair of glasses.
  • Visually striking, deepen or break the illusory reality of the film.

We will be using this camera shot in one of our scene by using a car,
sTay TuNed.

It is definitely not easy to create something that is projected in our mind to a screen. We are all lacking experiences as it is the first time we are making a short film, and also I realize that there's a lot that we cannot do in reality. But still I look forward to our group's end product. Sorry if we did it badly, I sincerely hope that you all will enjoy the film :)
